Style Bites – Bows & Ties

Ties are for bankers and businessmen, bows are for cello players and scientists. Ties are for reputable, reliable, serious people, bows are for the free spirits within a conservative world. That used to be the common perception – but things have changed.

Bows, ties, ribbons and strings are worn differently now. The easiest way to change your look from ‚daywear‘ to ‚fancy-night-out‘ -outfit is to put on a tie or a bowtie.

A tie offers you a million different possibilities to change your look: wear it short, wear it long, wear it tight or lose, wear a wide or a narrow style, chose stripes, jacquard or printed ones (never go for humorous prints!), get a 50s, 60s or 70s look, tie a ‚full‘ or a ‚half Windsor‚- there are endless choices and all of them are cool – if you don’t take youself too seriously. And don’t get me wrong – I am not talking exclusively to the boys here (nothing more adorable than Patti Smith’s ‚punk-rock-with-tie‘-look), be creative, girls – any old ribbon will do, just tie it around the collar of your shirt and you are good to go.

At the end of the day a tie or a bowtie are always sort of a ‚giftwrap‘, a promise, a temptation – you surely want to see what’s hidden inside.
